RIM 3: AI-based Traffic Cameras

During a field experiment, this use case works on developing an AI-based traffic camera system in the Science Port and alongside the test track to the university campus for the automated shuttle bus. The cameras serve to capture real traffic data as well as real-time surveillance during the shuttles' operation.

Goals:

  • Optimisation of computer vision and AI algorithms for traffic situation assessment concerning the minimisation of energy usage and the calculating time of edge-computing devices (cameras)
  • Real-time transmission and evaluation of video data in a traffic control centre for automatised vehicles
  • Experimental development and examination of potentially supplying the cameras with solar energy
  • Permanent, data-protection-compliant operation of traffic cameras in public spaces
